Cap Jacobs has been a physicist, teacher, technology business developer, art collector, and now, artist. If there is a theme throughout most of this it has been the joy of creating and communicating.
His current portfolio of work, “Along a Line” uses the limited set of formal structural elements of straight lines, linear geometric forms and a single circle. Vibrant colours and the interplay of form provide an exciting bridge between minimalist and abstract art. The word ‘abstraction’ could imply taking something that is ‘concrete’ and representing it in terms of some generic elements that transcend the concrete. In that sense, these paintings are not abstract at all. Each painting simply is a visual presentation that Cap finds aesthetically pleasing.
Largely self-taught, Cap says, “Planning a painting is an open-ended exploration that often has a life of its own. The painting process itself is an exercise of meticulous care. Put together, I find it all an uplifting creative experience.”
