Jeremy Leeming completed a Craft Design Diploma at the Otago School of Art where Jeweller & tutor, David McLeod was a key influence. He then completed a two-year apprenticeship with Danish Silversmith and Jeweller, Jens Hansen in Nelson, who remains a significant inspiration.
After travelling overseas he settled in London for 10 years and during that time co-owned and operated The Providores & Tapa Room Restaurant in London.
Back in New Zealand, Jeremy returned to making jewellery and currently shares a studio with German Jeweller, Elfi Spiewack in Christchurch.
Jeremy’s interest in Scandinavian design has influenced his style of work. Using Silver & Gold along with precious and semi-precious stone he looks to create pieces that are simple in form with clean lines, but without unnecessary embellishment.
Both David McLeod and Jens Hansen had a strong interest in cutting indigenous stones such as Argillite, Basalt & Pounamu and this has also been a significant influence on Jeremy’s work. He takes enormous pleasure in using the carved stone in a contemporary way in his jewellery.
