'Originally from London now living in Auckland, Miles Harty has taken constant inspiration from these surroundings.
The landscapes caused a theme in his work to have a reference to 'home' as an idea or an object to be portrayed. The imagery of his own 'utopian' worlds are a way to escape and you can see are a direct expression from himself. The skewed perspectives of medieval tapestries and the idea of a parallel world, influence the beauty of imperfections and give the images he creates something measured and exact, but also a new freedom and looseness.
Creating an impossible and yet familiar world with the naivety of a child and the detail of an adult, Miles' work leaves you with a feeling of belonging as well as an underlying emptiness.'
