Peter was a keen photographer from an early age, but didn't turn professional until 1989 when he embarked on a bicycle expedition of the South Island, along with 20kg of camera equipment. A self-taught photographer, he spent many years travelling the world as a photographer on cruise ships, returning to N.Z in 2003, when he began experimenting with images on canvas.
Most of his work highlights the diverse beauty of N.Z's grand landscape and flora.
Peter carries out all the photography, printing, varnishing, stretching and assembly himself.
"It's one heck of a privilege to do this job and I don't take any of it for granted. Those unique moments when you happen to be in the right place at the right time are quite rare and it takes a lot of patience and determination to capture them, but it's a bit of an addiction I guess and I'm hooked! I'd love to spend more time out in the field than I do, but in reality most of my time is spent in my studio, keeping up with the nitty-gritty."
