Collection: Susan Rousselot

Susan is a contemporary cast-glass artist exploring how forms, patterns, and colours can evoke a sense of life and joy. Using the lost-wax method, Susan tries to push the boundaries of glass casting, believing that creating works in cast glass strengthens the metaphor of each piece for life and joy: the process can be challenging yet gratifying, with the end result glowing yet delicate, beautiful yet imperfect, vibrant yet breakable.
She is fascinated by how shapes and patterns can trigger pleasure, whether by association with happy times, or simply through the beauty contained in the familiar. For example, ribbon delights not only because of the graceful forms it can take, but also because it transports us to life’s joyful moments: gifts, special occasions, and celebrations. Sails and spinnakers make us think of the long sunny days of summer. And symbols (such as the treble clef) are simply beautiful if we will only just look at them.

Susan’s work aims to show beauty in familiar objects or forms through simplicity of shape, colour, and movement. The cast glass glows with life and depth, continually changing with the light and our perspective, inviting us to look again, examine, and discover new beauty and wonder within everyday things. Susan hopes to engage the viewer with each object’s joyful associations, simplicity, and delicate strength.
