Ema Scott & Stephen Wheeler opened their studio 'Stonepeace' in 1999. Their studio is at a very special (ūkaipō) enclave of family land in Hawkes Bay. Here, they produce honed-down, elegant stone forms from granite, marble, pounamu, & greywacke, sensitive to balance & flow, & tactile in nature. Ema says that although the work is physically demanding it rewards by revealing an enduring peace & connection. Her intention is to give peace a tangible form.
Ema is of Māori / Irish / Scottish descent. She views her work as a tangible expression of an unbroken chain of creativity linking through her parents to her Tipuna (ancestors) & ultimately to the source of all creation. Ema finds inspiration in her spiritual connection to the past. She calls this ‘design by descent’.
We are proud to support, Ema Scott!
