Collection: Jill Fleming

From a young age, Jill has been passionate about textile design and all types of mediums. Jill completed Clothing and Textile Design at Wellington Polytechnic and has continued to develop her creative process. After some time overseas, she returned to Aotearoa and so began a love for Raranga (weaving).
For Jill, the process of harvesting and prepping natural media from the land and transforming it into finished works is imbued with integrity, tradition and connection. Jill works with both traditional and contemporary mediums.

Jill feels inspired and indebted to the Tohunga Mahi who have shared their knowledge, and to the many others who have shared their passion, expertise and so much more, with her. She is especially indebted to her first Kaiako, Karmen Thomson.
Jill has work held in the London Royal Academy of Art and the permanent collection at the Rotorua Museum. Her kete whakairo are also part of the collections held by New Zealand embassies in countries throughout the world.
