Mary Schollum
Mary’s work focuses on glaze, texture, form, & intricate detail with inspiration drawn from the natural environment of Aotearoa. Mary’s ceramics range from small bowls & sculptural pieces to larger experimental works. She hand-builds her pieces & layers them with glazes, often with touches of gold. Her pinch bowls pay homage to her love of the environment & she often uses native leaves & flowers in her work.
Growing up in Puhoi, Mary spent much of her childhood roaming the hills & bush, creating a great love of New Zealand's native trees & plants. She recently relocated to Dunedin where she is currently studying ceramics at Otago Polytechnic & enjoying the challenge of learning new skills.
Mary’s approach to the medium is intuitive & she will often start with an idea without thinking too much about planning her next steps. She would rather allow the clay to find its own way. Mary embraces this organic approach & the results can be seen in the fluid forms & finishes she often achieves.
We are proud to support, Mary Schollum!
